During the audit process, the Executive Director of KCCA, Dorothy Kisaka informed Auditors that Kiteezi landfill is almost 100% to capacity and KCCA had purchased land worth 145 acres for the newest treatment facility in 2016 and the plan is to establish a modern waste energy facility plant at the new site, when funding is available.
“In the meantime, the capacity of Kiteezi is being expanded to accommodate additional 4acres and the Authority has built drainage around the landfill which were originally blocked by the community through encroachment. In addition, the maintenance and structure at the landfill is inadequate because of low funding. However, KCCA has a prospective investor willing to fast-track, resolution of this problem,” Kisaka is believed to have told Auditors.
