The Western Equatoria State Governor Alfred Futuyo has embarked on his first assessment tour of the eastern counties of his state since his appointment as governor of the state.

In a press release to the media shortly before departure on Sunday, governor Futuyo said the target of his mission was to assess the needs people of those counties including the condition of the road linking the state to the capital city of South Sudan, Juba.

The governor said he was embarking on massive mobilization of the youth of the state in order to help fill some pot holes along the trunk road before the national government could come in to do the permanent road rehabilitation.

The counties on the governor’s visit program includes Ibba, Maridi, greater Mundri and Mvolo Counties respectively.

According to some reports from the road users, over 50 trucks were stranded along Mundri-Maridi road due to bad road.

Meanwhile, the communities of Madebe Payam of Ibba County have vowed to rally their support to the Governor in his efforts to develop the state.

Sultan Marona Saako, on behalf of the community of Madebe in a rally held by the governor during his tour, expressed his Payam’s commitment to support the governor in his developmental and peace efforts in the state.

The Governor, on his part, pledged to empower the chiefs and traditional leaders in the state in order to enable them fully exercise their powers.

Chiefs in South Sudan do not longer have their powers as before, owing to the proliferation of guns in the hands of civilians.
